Forty of the best professional truck drivers from across Canada competed in Regina this past weekend in six classes to promote safe driving and professionalism in their field.

From Sept. 13 to Sept. 15, the Saskatchewan Trucking Association was honored to host the Canadian Trucking Industry's annual premier event: The National Professional Truck Driving Championships.

As a $54.7 billion business, Canada's Trucking Industry employs nearly 400,000 people. Almost everything you eat, wear, or consume arrived here because of it; it is responsible for more than half of Canada's total trading.

The NPTDC showcased the best professional truck drivers from coast to coast. They tested their skills on a competition course set up at IPSCO Place Agribition Grounds for national titles in various classifications.

"Drivers competing in this competition are some of the greatest in the Canadian trucking industry," said Denis Prud'homme, STA president. "They have all qualified provincially and are coming to the NPTDC to showcase their talent and demonstrate what it takes to be the industry's best,"

The four-day Roadeo began with a red carpet reception, and carried on through the weekend with a tour of the RCMP Heritage Centre, dinner at Beaver Creek Horse Ranch, the main competition and ended with a Gala Awards banquet featuring music by Saskatchewan's very own: Brad Johner.
