I had an epiphany while using the bathroom at Buc-ees

So I stop at the Buc-ees in Waller. Don’t know how many here have been to buc-ees. It’s a very popular gas station chain mostly in Texas. They don’t allow 18 wheelers. But I was driving a small vacuum truck so nobody said anything. Anyway I go into the bathroom and wow is it clean. I mean you could see your reflection in the urinal. There’s like 50 urinals and 30 crapper stalls and it’s busy but you can’t smell any crap. And then that’s when I had this epiphany. Why is it at the flying J or Loves there can be one or 2 guys taking a crap and it smells like a sewer, and at Buc-ees there can be dozens taking a crap and there is no odor. Does Buc-ees have a special ventilation system ? Or do truckers just have nastier smelling crap than most everyone else due to poor diet.

Should we as professional drivers demand that truck stops have ultra clean bathrooms like Buc-ees with better ventilation. Should we refuse to spend money at truck stops in protest of their poor janitorial practices?

Do you blame Buc-ees for not wanting truckers there or do you think it’s good business on their part? While there I had a pleasant experience in their restroom, just number 1, but next time I plan on taking a dump and checking out the stalls which are enclosed and private, much better than loves where you can hear and smell the guy next to you dropping a load. I also got some reasonably priced brisket sandwich there which was way better than the food at truckstops. A clean store with friendly staff. I wish Buc-ees would get in the truck stop business.

The urinals are lined up nicely with hand sanitizer right there. They’re sparkling clean. It’s a real pleasure using them and makes you wanna buy a jumbo soda so you can use it again.

Here’s the crappers. I didn’t use these but plan to next time. Nice and private and not a whiff of crap could I smell. Loves and Pilot should take note.

Dude the 76 on I-30 right before you cross into Texarkana is the exact same way. We have a chain up north called Buckey’s and it’s mostly gas stations. But they opened up a test “travel center” in St Joe Missouri. They got parking for 30ish trucks but the bathrooms are big, stalls private and they are clean. I never smelled odor in them. A big part of the odor problem is the bathrooms in most truck stops never get cleaned properly. The one exception to the rule are Sapp Brothers in Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Perceval Iowa. (Only other sapps I Stopped at was I’m Pennsylvania and the cleaning guy must of been home sick that day)

Anywhoo, I always wanted to stop at Buc-ee’s While going through Texas. A friend of mine down there has told me about some different things that sell food wise and want to pick some up. Maybe Buc-ee’s should do a test travel center so I can stops LOL

Some years ago I pulled a load out of somewhere down Corpus Christie way that had been a cluster from the start. Got up north a ways late at night without finding anything open serving anything resembling edible food, an' I come upon this Buc-youse - NO TRUCKS!!! Its open at 2AM, and there's hardly any of those prissy effin' four wheelers that overrun the truck stops an' give th' ol' Number 1 sign going down th' road either, but can't deal with large vehicles unless THEY are playing RV, but they want all their crap delivered yesterday. No trucks, huh?? Whats that tanker yanker doing out back?? He must be effin' invisable, because - NO TRUCKS!!! So I park next to him hopin' his invisibility is catchin', defiled their surgically pristine head, got something to eat, and since NO TRUCKS!!! - I left. I haven't been back, because -NO TRUCKS!!!

None of that is the point.

Buc-ee's Inc has decided they want to serve a segment of the public who they view as above all y'all - they're better. You're just dirty, foul smelling, slow moving truckers, who are usually in their way. Its not just the big truck they don't want in there, it's you as well because of a stereotype of the trucker they are implicitly pushing. Keep that in mind when you go in there, and spend your money to support their business model.

A super clean bathroom that doesn't offer parking within walking distance is useless to me. It could be made of gold trim with a womans hand that comes out the wall and wipes me and it would be worthless.

I really can’t blame them for not wanting 18 wheelers there, not only because of the space it takes up but man I can’t tell you how many pee bottles I’ve seen in truck stop parking lots. Recently pulled into the fuel Island closest to the door at loves and saw a yellow water bottle right at the pump, I mean can’t they at the very least put it in the trash can that’s right there. Just footsteps away from a bathroom too. I have seen many 18 wheelers park next to buccees and walk over though.
