Yet another ELD provider has gone under. The most recent casualty is the Cummins-backed ZED ELD. Anyone currently operating a ZED ELD will need to transfer to a new device as soon as possible.

ZED Connect published a blog post which announced that they would be offering refunds and partnering with another ELD company to get free equipment and services for their former users. Unfortunately, the time frame to take advantage of those offers was incredibly limited.

In order to qualify for a refund, ZED ELD owners needed to have purchased the hardware on or after October 1st, 2018.

ZED did indeed partner with Stoneridge EZ-ELD. Anyone transferring from ZD was offered a free Stoneridge ELD device and a free subscription for one year. Unfortunately, according to ZED Connect’s website, the cutoff for that offer was December 31st, 2018.

ZED is just the latest of the no-subscription-fee ELD providers to go under. The pricing model was attractive to owner-operators. Pay once for the hardware and then receive the service for free forever after. Unfortunately, as former no-fee ELD provider One20 found, when you’re not changing a subscription fee, investors find it “easier… just to close the doors.”

Truckers have until January 31st to migrate to a new ELD provider before ZED stops supporting their devices.

KeepTrucking has a quality product. Yes there's a subscription fee, but the software is easy to use and it seems to implement the HOS regs properly.
