Primrose Winter Klenz ID 5757 - Premium Diesel Additive - An Ongoing Review

As I mentioned in another thread, it's time for winter to show it's ugly face again, and for those what face gelling/icing concerns, it's time to start combating the issue again.

Beginning with my next fuel up which will be this evening, I will begin adding Primrose Winter Klenz ID 5757 to the fuel.

I will be running this product from October through March, longer if weather requires it. During the warm months, I plan to transition to the regular additive manufactured by Primrose.

The recommendation from the person I got the product from is to but a bottle into each tank for the first dose. Being as I have new injectors, and have been running another additive in my tanks lately, I will start right off with running the 1:1000 ratio. (one bottle divided into both of my tanks)

the bottle is one quart (32 oz). This means that 1:1000 is 1 quart for 250 gallons, or for more accurate purposes because it's rare to have a 250 gallon fillup for most, 1oz per 7.8 gallons of fuel. So, rather than stand outside with a calculator, and per discussions with the reps for this product, I will be running this basically at 1 oz for every 10 gallons of fuel I put in and rounding for simplicity.

Example: 75 gallons, I will add 8 ounces. 190 gallons, 20 oz. The 1qt bottles are marked at 4 oz intervals, so mixing properly is fairly simple.

In extreme cold situations (below zero), I will go a bit heavier on the dosage to make sure I am treating at the 1 oz per 7.8 gallons of fuel ratio. From the people who have used this product, that I have talked to, 1 oz per 10 gallons works just fine in all temps, I want to just make sure and have the adequate amount of additive in these situations given my history with fuel problems.

As it stands right now, my current fuel filter has been in for over 10k miles. I will be monitoring the looks of it to see how well this additive is cleaning things. For those that don't know, I run a series 60 Detroit, and the only fuel filter in the system is my Davco. A 7 micron is recommended, I have been running 10 micron due to the short life of the 7 micron filters. I have gone back to a 7 micron to see how well this additive allows the fuel to flow through the small filter, though I will be keeping 10 microns on standby if I run into issues.

The product is not cheap, but if mixed properly, it is cheaper than the products you buy off the shelves of the truck stops. It's also not a product you can buy a bottle at a time, unless you have a local farm/ranch supply that happens to be a distributor.

The cleaning and lubricity of this product, from the conversations with the distributor and reading about the product, seems to be much better than what you can buy on the truck stop shelves. Time will tell. I do have some build up in my tanks, and given what I see in the tanks, I am sure my fuel lines as well, so it's possible I may be replacing my current filter really soon depending on how it breaks stuff up.

As for a power boost, this product raises Cetane 40 points or 4 numbers, twice as much as what others have advertised. Given the average Cetane rating of fuel at the pump, this puts your Cetane rating back to where it truly needs to be for increased power and faster starts. Currently ASTM D975 requires cetane to be a 40 minimum. The engine manufacturers association require a minimum of 43 cetane. This is extremely beneficial especially for cold starting operability. Cetane improvement is equal in both the winter and summer blend, only the cleaning and water removal agents are different.

I will update this as I learn more about the product. In the meantime, I am attaching the PDF file for the winter klenz product.
