BC amends regs to allow for longer boat tails, B-Trains

    VANCOUVER, BC — The Government of B.C. has amended regulations to increase the allowable length of boat tails, which are rear-mounted trailer panels that reduce aerodynamic drag to improve fuel economy.

    Transport Canada amended federal regulations to allow boat tails in December 2013, but allowing the use of boat tails also required a change to provincial vehicle weights and dimensions regulations. Boat tails have increased from from 0.61 to 1.52 m.
