This article shoots a large hole in the "supply and demand" argument for the recent fuel price increases. Basically, the demand has slowed, the supply is plentiful, yet petroleum users are still getting reamed.

I read that most of you blame the government for the woes of the trucking community, and, you bombard our representatives with demands to "do something", and your perceived cures are numerous.
Maybe, they should do nothing.
Here's an editorial, written by an owner/operator (albeit a successful one), that appeared in the June 30th print edition of Transport Topics. Somehow, I find it hard to argue with the writer's logic.

I'm trying to do an analysis on the cost savings for an electric powered semi truck. There is a new type of battery coming from EEStor that should make this viable, but I have no idea what the operating specifications for an electrically powered semi should be.
Here are what I've assumed (really just guessed) is workable:- 180,000 miles per year
- 450 mile range per charge (is this to short?)
- battery weight adds 4700 lbs
- diesel averaging around $5
