- 04-10-2008subtenderas12Hello Knights Of The Open Road I am a 69 yr old retiree who has always loved the big rigs but my work life has been sitting at a desk.... All over the news media I have seen that major carriers are considering retirees, so I'm going for it...I have just a few questions if I could pick the brains/experience of all you professional driver veterans out there..
I drove a straight job fuel truck for a company back in the sixties and I made a couple of mistakes...minor fuel spill, and in another instance forgot to set park brakes and truck rolled into a door ...embarrassed, I resigned before they could kick me out......I then sat at desk job type occupations my entire life since that incident....will those mistakes be a bad mark against me as I try to reenter the field??..and posssibly prevent me from being hired????
Second question: I read a trucker was shot to death while waiting to unload his rig at 5am ..Are truckers frequently exposed to delivering to unsafe neighborhoods??? Do you have a say if you feel uncomfortable for your life, or if you feel over your head in a potentially dangerous situation..??
Thanks Guys and Gals..
Much respect
Subtender
