Two El Paso men remained in the Parker County Jail on Tuesday after troopers found 975 pounds of marijuana in the tractor-trailer they were driving to Chicago, according to reports.
Fernando Anchondo, 45, and Carlos Hernandez Jr., 34, were arrested on delivery-of-marijuana charges, according to jail records.
They were stopped at 8:45 a.m. Sunday by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers who were conducting a routine commercial vehicle inspection, according to a DPS report.
Troopers learned that the rig originated in El Paso and was destined for Chicago. Also, the two men "displayed signs of nervousness," the report said.
Troopers received consent to search the vehicle and noticed that a security seal on the trailer was broken, according to the report.
One of the troopers entered the trailer and found "an unmarked box containing marijuana. A continued search located a total of 975 pounds of marijuana."
The load had an estimated street value of $500,000, the troopers said.
Bail for both men was set at $20,000, according to jail records.
