RALEIGH, N.C. – West Brother's Companies, a leading provider of commercial transportation, logistics and leasing services in the Southeast, was honored to have one of their owners, Tommy West, elected as chairman of the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA). West was chosen by the general membership of NCTA and will serve until the annual convention next summer.

"Tommy West is dedicated to the cause of highway safety, and he is a staunch advocate for the trucking industry," said NCTA president Charlie Diehl. "He is eager to strengthen this association and advance the group's collective initiatives."

Last August, West Brother's Companies was honored with five highly coveted awards for highway, driver and workforce safety by NCTA. It was the most awards won by any trucking company in the state of North Carolina. Most recently, West Brothers Transportation Services was named runner up for the Vehicle Safety award in the 10-25 million mile category for their performance during 2007.

"Tommy and I were raised within the trucking industry family and he has a lifetime of experience to offer NCTA," said Chief Executive Officer Craig West. "NCTA draws together the best ideas from trucking companies across the state and we feel that West Brother's has a lot to offer in terms of our rigorous safety training program. I'm sure we'll gather a few new ideas as well from Tommy's tenure as chairman."

West Brother's has shown a sustained commitment to helping businesses achieve their continuous productivity improvement goals by offering Productivity in Motion TM solutions while still maintaining an aggressive safety program across their fleet.

At West Brother's Transportation Services potential drivers must have a minimum two-year safe driving record to pass the initial screening. Once hired, drivers frequently attend refresher courses on safety including time spent in the specially equipped West Brother's "Excellence Training Vehicle" where they are tested in real time traffic situations to make sure they follow all safety protocols. Drivers who excel in upholding these protocols are given awards for their efforts. West Brother's fleet is regularly maintained and inspected to ensure compliance with all DOT requirements.
