| If you have not yet called your Congressman or Congresswoman in Washington, DC to tell them to support HR6630, please do so IMMEDIATELY. The bill is scheduled to be voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon or evening.
The very powerful U.S. Chamber of Commerce is now lobbying against HR6630 and threatening lawmakers with repercussions if they support the bill.
HR6630 will require the immediate termination of the DOT's crossborder trucking pilot program with Mexico and revoke the DOT's ability to grant Mexico-domiciled carriers authority to operate beyond commercial zones without Congressional approval.
As you know, the DOT was supposed to conclude the pilot program after one year (on September 6), but decided to go back on its word and again defy Congress by extending the program for another two years.
HR6630 will be brought up as a suspension bill. In other words, to hurry the bill through, the House will suspend normal procedural rules for the bill. The catch is that for the bill to pass, more than two-thirds of the lawmakers voting must vote for it.
Please contact your Congressman or Congresswoman NOW to tell them to vote for HR6630. If you contacted them yesterday, please do so again today.
To contact your lawmaker in the House of Representatives, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, provide the operator with your home zip code and they will connect you with his or her office.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call the Association at 1-800-444-5791.
