ONTARIO, Ore. — An increase in urine-filled plastic containers disposed along a section of Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon has prompted warnings from police and the Oregon Trucking Association.

Oregon State Police Sgt. Jason Reese said a litter crew picked up an estimated 200 to 300 urine-filled plastic bottles in a 25-mile stretch of Interstate 84.

“The main portion, about 100 bottles, was found on the eastbound side in a three-mile stretch called ‘Three Mile Hill’ between milepost 356 and 359,” Reese said. “This area is prone to this problem because commercial trucks are driving at a slow speed and drivers can urinate into bottles and toss them out the window.”

Officials agree that the problem isn’t caused just by truck drivers, but some drivers said the price of fuel may have caused drivers to travel slower than normal to save diesel while skipping rest areas or truck stops.

Oregon law specifically addresses roadside disposal of urine. It’s a misdemeanor offense and violators can be fined up to $250 and sent to jail.

Oregon State Police and the Oregon Trucking Association have joined together to ask all drivers to help keep the state beautiful and to stop littering along the highways. They advise travelers to plan ahead and keep track of available rest areas and other restroom facilities.

This has to be one of the more embarrassing quotes I have seen regarding truckers in a newspaper.

Granted, there are some out there who are just too damn lazy to stop and get out and walk to a bathroom. I agree, those people are shameful. The other side of the coin is, it's shameful that some drivers feel that because of time constraints by their company, they don't have time to stop and use a bathroom. Either way, I agree Moose, it's another black eye on the entire industry.

I don't buy into the time constraint issue. It takes just a few minutes to pull into a rest area, or into a truck stop, use the restroom and move on.

This is nothing but a case of worthless people out there embarrassing those who take pride in their job.

I agree totally Moose, they are all a blackeye to the industry. What I meant when I talked about the companies putting pressure on drivers with time constraints, is the dispatcher actually telling the driver he/she doesn't care if he has to piss in a jug, just make sure your there on time. I know I've heard these morons, and you probably have too. They tell a driver that they don't really care what it takes, this load has got to be there "No Matter What". I've told many of them over alot of years, and I'll tell all you rookies out there right now....."I have never ever put anything in or on a trailer I was pulling that was worth me degrading myself for, or killing myself or someone else to get delivered". "It will get there when I get there and not one minute sooner". "If that isn't good enough I suggest you put it on someone elses trailer".
Have An Awesome Day......

I agree Bullwinkle. I think it is a simple matter of laziness myself. I think the people who throw out the piss bottles are the same ones who are just too lazy to walk inside a truck stop or rest area to take the piss in the first place. Doing your business in a bottle is one thing. But it's just common courtesy to at least dispose of that bottle properly.

Works for me... Unfortunately, there are some over-zealous cops out here who will arrest a driver for "kicking a tire", and, charge the driver for indecent exposure. If that charge sticks the driver must then register as a sex offender. If the charge don't stick, the driver still pays heavy legal fees, and, it's still an arrest for a sex crime for someone to dig up and use against you later, when you least expect it. With that prospect looming, it's not hard to see how the "trucker bomb" became so popular. Sex crime vs. littering? Is there really a question?

I know drivers who save their pee bottles (not this driver) until they can "dispose" of them in favorite places, like the money holes where the revenue rangers sit to run their speed traps, and, in jurisdictions that are known for giving truckers a hard time.

Rule #1 = Take breaks. You and the environment will be more healthy.

Rule #2 = Keep an empty jug in the truck just in case rule #1 don't work out.
I've had to sit in the middle of the George Washington bridge for a few hours, and there wasn't much a person could do when the bodily function urge hits. Either you got a jug to use, or, you're gonna' get embarrassed.

There is an alternative to a pee bottle available for those who would like to try it. Sorry ladies, the future don't look so bright for you.

On the flip side of that, I pulled into a truckstop for the night, got up the next morning, stepped out of my truck and there on the ground was a McDonald's breakfast styrofoam container filled with !@#$. To make matters worse, we were only 20, count them, 20 yrads from the McDonalds! No that's lazy.

What is wrong with using a bottle, then emptying the bottle on the ground, say in the grass or something, on a ramp? What is so hard about that? It takes, from the time you hit the ramp, then get back on the highway, 1 minute or so.

There is no good reason to just throw full bottles of urine on the shoulder. It's classified (IIRC) as hazmat to those that have to pick up these bottles.

That's what I do. It's not hard. Wake up, pee, get dressed, do dump the pee out. Repeat the next day (or night).

I guess people feel it's less embarrassing to just though it out of a moving truck, then to carry it to the grass then dump it out. Ewww, that guy's carrying a bottle of pee...

I've carried jugs of Urine into a Rest Area commode and emptied them and continued to use the jugs.
I've emptied A LOT of jugs on A LOT of exit/enter ramps all over this country, so what.
I toss the usually empty jugs out into dumpsters or trash can/containers at truck stops, rest areas, etc., when I feel they've more than served their purpose. I PREFER containers with screw on lids as snap on lids have a great tendency to snap off.
If there are states (like TX?) that have some sort of problem with a driver having a pee jug in the truck, then they can explain to me what to do when in a traffic jam or other malady when Nature is knocking.
What I would do and have done in a 4 wheeler stuck in traffic on a Highway is to find the first exit and use side roads or simply use an exit/entrance ramp for the Nature is knocking scenario.
I prefer to warm the ground or use a jug than have a temporary warm lap and seat.

Ziplock bags work like a charm, put them in a bucket until u get to a truckstop, throw em away, or dump the contents in a toilet. Dispose of bag in a garbage recepticle.

Well as its good old blighty we can as a male may urinate in public, so long as it is on the rear wheel of his motor vehicle, and his right hand is on the vehicle. its a little known fact that this is still a drivers legal right to pee.
May be there's a law that says the same over there somewhere
dating back to the old stagecoach days

Actually we solved our pissing problem LOL

My Dad before he passed away bought a portable toilet that is really compact and small but very useful. So I got it out, wiped the dust off and put it in the truck. No more peeing in the cup for TS08 LOL.
A while back when we were potty training the 3 year old and would take her on the road with us I took her potty with us in the truck. Well I ended up using it too LOL
I hate to even tell that but it worked!

I bet the local hospital would give you a urinal too honestly. Or if you get hospitalized make sure you take it home with you.

Shewee Female Urinal

The Shewee is a portable urinating device for women which allows women to urinate whilst standing & without removing clothes.

Great for camping, walking, skiing, climbing, traffic jams, travelling, unhygienic public toilets & much more.

No more uncomfortable squatting or bare bottoms!
