Good lord, some of you folks are so incredibly wrong, it's unreal. I was raised dirt poor in South Texas on a farm that my family couldn't afford to own, just worked it. Parents didn't graduate high school, dad didn't even finish the 6th grade.

My parents were 50 and 42 when I was born, and they were young folks when the Great Depression hit. There were no movies, cool toys, a car for graduation..none of that stuff.

I did a career in the military and was forced out before I wanted out by the Clinton-approved and Phil Graham authored Graham-Rudman Budget Reduction Acy that cost almost 60% of our military folks their careers. Almost 60%, within 6 months...including me, were gone. Try that one on for size, sports fans.

I worked in retail after getting out, both in automotive service and sales, and ended up as an expert witness for 6 years in lemon law and breach of warranty cases - for consumers, not dealerships or car manufacturers.

I worked my tail off during all of this to land 3 degrees, put both boys through community college and a full blown automotive technical school, and thank GOD I had the great job I did, since my lawfirm shut down my health insurance when my son's cancer treatment costs went over 1 million dollars, I was left to pay over $180,000 in medical bills. I did that in 3 years without filing bankruptcy.

So, Bandit especially, if you have a problem with me, you can pucker up and kiss my Fruit of the Looms...since I've paid my dues and worked hard in my life, done lots of community and charity work, have 3 active charities RIGHT NOW....and STILL don't like it when people whine without having the guts to do something about whatever they're whining about instead of just whining and crying like some helpless little kid.

I commented about people whining without a solution or idea to correct what they're whining about...and now I'm "condescending" and "not suffering".

How dare you assume I'm not suffering - I lost my business, lost a car and some other assets, and we fight every day to keep our Dodge Ram that we pay almost $5 a gallon to put diesel in. My wife and I worked for Covenant for 6 months while we drew $50-60 paychecks several weeks and always got the run around about getting loads, having to fight tooth and nail for every mile we got.

We left there and went to Hammonds Trucking in Alabama - that rinky dink place is running 20 year old rolling DOT shutdowns for equipment and on our first run, sat in Washington for almost 2 weeks waiting for a load.

She got out of it, is going back into the medical admin field, and I start for Indian River tomorrow.

It's amazing the attitudes that a couple of you folks ASSUME about me. My name is Jim Lewis - I'll give you the shirt off my back and my last dollar if it'll help you, so don't you DARE attack me with all of your stereotypes.

The goverment still does not have a plan for transmission lines from one part of the country to another. Bio-diesel has 10% more energy per gallon than regular diesel. Ethanol has 20% less energy than regular gasoline. But we give tax subsidies for Ethanol and none for Bio-diesel. Except for exports of diesel that has bio-diesel added to it. Did you know that in Russia that most (freight) railroad tracks are electric. All frieght trains in the US use fuel oil.
I think that there are solutions. But we need a presidential candidate that is willing to talk about them. Both Obama and McCain are not, they are saying the same 30 year old political speech.
Here's something that many people don't know, and I only know because I was there. In Athens, Greece, where my wife and I were stationed from 1983-1986, there is at least ONE, if not 3-4 solar panels on EVERY roof. EVERY roof. It's amazing in that Greece is almost a third world country...heck, in the mid 80s, they were still using green ledger books and handwriting to keep track on phone and utility bills - I'm talking about the phone and utility companies! And yet, every house is using solar energy for electricity and heating water.

Why is it that when someone wants to use a solar panel at their house, they can't even get a tax break for it?

Blame it on lawyers, seriously, since lawyers comprise most of the lobbyists and speculators..."advisors", they call them. Yeah, right.

By the way, I'm not into politics, not even into discussing politics, so I certainly don't have a "political agenda". Even if I did, how would I go about influencing the outcome of anything political on a casual truck drivers forum? Please leave the conspiracy theories alone, I don't fit the mold.

I don't apologize Jim Lewis......I don't care what your background is or who you are or want to be. It still doesn't give you the right to degrade anyone on this forum which is exactly what you did for no reason whatsoever. None of these people attacked you first. You are the one who saw fit to stereotype most of the people here into a group that you assumed we are. No, I don't apologize to you for a thing. If there are any apologies necessary, that will come from you. Don't come here wearing your ass on your shoulders and try to degrade everyone here and then come back looking for pity from us. You won't get it from me. I don't think there are any of us here who were born with a Silver Spoon in our mouths. I'm all through discussing anything and everything with you now and in the future.

I think this thread shows how high the frustration level in this country is - imagine this multiplied by 300 million.
There are solutions. Most of the time they get shot down 'cause they're bad ideas or people just don't wanna try.
Bottom line is we expect our elected officials to have the good ideas or at least listen to ours and try. This ain't happenin.
This country was built by "disgruntled former employees" and it's not a bad thing when we give our government a little hell.
I won't beat a dead horse but I think you stepped into your own "stereotype" mess, ronin.

Wrong again, and you're reading into my posts, taking something personal that wasn't aimed at anyone specifically. You're looking for a fight, and you'll do anything to get it. And Bandit, you have anger issues that you need to deal with - you remind me of the guy who goes ballastic on the lady at the fuel desk when YOUR fuel car doesn't work right.

Or like the guy from Knight Transport who knifed a guy at a Love's in Virginia (64 times) over a Mickey Dd's cheeseburger..

You always talk like you're a half an inch from snapping...and you should take a deep breath.

One of my favorite commanders in the service had a great statement/policy - we have an "open door" policy, if you come to me (meaning him) with a complaint, make sure you have an idea for the solution to the problem in your back pocket. If not, you're just complaining, and that's a waste of time for both of us.

That was my point, and essentially asking "why are you complaining, why don't you help to fix the problem(s) instead of whining about it?".

Bandit, you might keep your distance - as a cancer survivor and having been wounded several times, I look at life quite a bit differently than many people. I look at things from a compassionate, encouraging perspective - I might rub off on you, your anger and hatred might go away, and you might actually have to carry on a normal, respectful conversation. Be very careful...courtesy and respect are contagious, and you just might catch them.

Bullwinkle, I have seen others here, including myself, insult other members here on the forum and get put down for it by you. Why then are you not doing the same here? Is it perhaps because it seems that you both have the same political agenda? I'm still trying to figure out what the hell political matters are doing in this thread anyway. You both can respond to this if you wish, I personally don't care and will not comment any further, just don't insinuate that myself and others here are not patriotic citizens, or that we sit here and do nothing. That I won't let fly.......not from you or anyone else.
Once again, Ronin's comments were directed toward anyone in general.

You say I have some sort of political agenda? Since when is saying people need to vote and be active towards making changes they want to see made a political agenda.

You seem to have this unstoppable urge to push me into something lately, and I don't know why. It is getting old though. Nobody is forcing you to stay here if you hate it so much here. And this is the last thread where I am going to give you combative attitude the time of day.

And since you are probably going to run and whine to everyone privately like you did to greyfoxx last time you got an infraction, be advised that the personal insult you started this post out with will get you yet another one.

Just to catch you up on the current people here.

Most of the people who are active in our "trucking industry issues" forum are people who are, and have been, very active in efforts to improve the trucking industry, as well as very active in communicating with any and all politicians.

While you weren't talking directly to any specific person, it was taken that way by many of the members because this is still a very small group of truckers.

You are right though in that far too many people complain and blame the government for everything, when the fact is the blame needs to fall on the citizens who sit around and do nothing but complain.

Not posting this to tell you in any way that what you are saying is wrong, just to give you a better understanding of the people you are talking with here. It doesn't excuse the personal insults, but it does hopefully portray a better picture of the active members of this forum.

TTW has got a thread "is anyone ready to start protesting".
We'll be chatting @ 8pm est or check out thread for people who are not just complaining but looking for action.
I still think most of these "wars of words" are frustrations building in all of us.
I'm not immune to it or anyboby else. I know I am looking to fight anyone who means harm to me, my family or friends. Right now it appears to be Uncle Sam and some bigshots with deep pockets. They've succeeded in taking down almost 1,000 trucking companies this year and we're all hurting.
Other than bending over and taking it... any solutions?

You know I've watched you spout off, put your foot in your mouth and then cry for sympathy when someone points out your own bad assumptions.
We call that instigators.
Its hard enough without this going on too. Thanks

Talking about Bandit, I guess. I never asked anyone for sympathy, just explained a few things when someone assumed we weren't suffering enough to qualify here. I didn't cry TO anyone or about anyone, just defended myself.

I didn't contact a moderator, I talked directly to the person behaving like a childish idiot and set things straight, as far as I was concerned.

If you're reading anything else into what I've posted, I guess I can't help you.

Interesting item posted in my "reputation".

Don't know which chicken-dung wrote this, but its funny. I get an education, and I'm an outcast? Should I have dropped out of school, and maybe lost a few teeth to be accepted around here? Whatever happened to improving yourself?

I wore a suit in court because the judge would have been pissed if I had worn my favorite sweatshirt or jeans and boots. I'm amazed at the maturity level, of lack thereof, when all folks want to do is take chicken crap potshots at people instead of actually discussing issues. Of course, if you're not able to hold a conversation, I guess you revert back to 7th grade name calling.
