Here are what I've assumed (really just guessed) is workable: - 180,000 miles per year
- 450 mile range per charge (is this to short?)
- battery weight adds 4700 lbs
- diesel averaging around $5 for the next 4 years
Here is a link to a spreadsheet semi-conversion analysis that details the cost and savings but in a nutshell running on electricity would be the same as $1.90 for diesel. |
If you'll go to "In the news" thread post #234 I've got a link to EEStor.
It's actually a new supercapacitor instead of battery. The idea is to eliminate batteries and store power in capacitor (which is what they do) the trick is to store and then draw out power at rate needed by motor. They claim to have done this by using different mat'l and assembly process. I simplified to spare you boring details but if it works-we're done with most ICEs.
On a related note China I think has been using similiar system for a year to run city buses. Not efficient for OTR trucks but they don't have EEStor.
I don't have site for these buses handy but I'll go back and try to find. I think I googled capacitors and stumbled upon it.(insert joke here)
