It wont work,90 is not time to plan anything.
You still have know idea as to what is involved.
Or what it will take.
We dont even know who is who,or what is what......................
Befor you even start talking shut down again. you must have everything in place.
Read your post, You dont.
Give me the name of the 4 reps.
Do they agree as to how this will happen?
Do we have any trucking co. backing?
What about the union's who are laughing their ass off.
Will we shut down again, yes but only if and when everything and by that I mean all the t's are crossed and all the i are doted.
Calif. has heard nothing, most of the east coast have heard nothing.
I want to hear from all 4 reps,
talk to me,
We are having a hard enough time getting the boycott out.
tell me how you plan on doing this.
oh by the way on this one I voted
no!

IIronman, you can call April 1st whatever you want, and no matter what you call it, it was a failure as far as a NationWide Shutdown goes. I noticed Ifs and I Hope in your post. There can't be any IFS and I HOPES in another Shutdown. It has to be a definite plan all across the board. And no, I don't have any LEMONS, just a good dose of REALITY. When I talk of making a lot of noise and doing it our way not theirs (the gov. & cops), I'll give you a good example:::Back in the 70s when we tried this, I led a convoy of what started out as 50 trucks in Cheyenne, Wy. that was started and organized in a truckstop on the CB. and the telephone. We coordinated that convoy with one being started up in Memphis, Tn. at the same time. My group would travel across I-80 at 45mph in the right lane of the roadway and invite anyone all along the way to join in and run with us to the jnct. of I-80 & I-55 in Joliet, Ill. where we would meet up with the convoy coming north out of Memphis on I-55 and doing the same thing along the way. We told the authorities we were coming and told the media we were coming and were going to shut down the junction of the 2 interstates to hold a press conference with gov. officials and media. Along the way my convoy grew to approx 350 trks, and the one from the south grew to approx 300 trks. All along the way the police and scalehouses were cooperative with us (they simply closed all the scales) and everything went smoothly. People were on the overpasses cheering and waving us on. Media followed us the entire length of the trip. When we arrived at the I-80/I-55 jnct. every other trk moved out of line and doubled up blocking both eastbound lanes and closing the interstate eastbound and the convoy from the south did the same on northbound I-55 going into Chicago. We had more media out there than you could ever believe. TV, Radio, Newspapers, everyone....Also there were 4 Gov. Reps. including the Governor of Ill., 2 senators, & the Mayor of Chicago. The meeting lasted for about an hour and a half and the interstate jnct. stayed closed in all directions for that amount of time. I know they had one hell of a time getting everything back in motion after we were through......That is what I mean when I say MAKE NOISE, and DO IT OUR WAY not THEIRS. So No IIronman, I don't have any LEMONS

1. This MUST be an action by all individuals/groups/sites/organizations as a unified effort with no specific individual in charge of making statements, or decisions affecting the whole. There is first a need for a statement of why (reasons and demands) this shutdown is being called for, and all of us must stay on subject when promoting, or presenting statements to government and media. And the statement MUST NOT contain eroneous, or foolish, statements. I have not seen this yet.

2. No changing in mid-stream. Once action and reasons are initiated...it's set in stone and stays on subject. All involved needs to understand the importance of success regarding this.

3. Date for shutdown...should be set for a specific reason, not because it's 90 days from now. I know there's a primary sometime around that date. It's my opinion to set whatever date for this shutdown call for the day of that primary, this is only my input regarding the day - not my intention of dictating the picking of a date. I have not seen any justified reason for this particular date, but if this is the date...this is what I will support and promote.

4. This is my biggest concern. No statements of blockades, violent actions, vandalism actions...anything that does not fall within our constitutional rights. Outlaw actions, as I refer to them, should be kept quite and only discussed among the individuals that choose to pursue them. I realize that some types of action will eventually be necessary, but should not be made publicly known for the effectiveness of those actions. This I have already seen occur in the past few days - the calling for outlaw actions.

5. The last concern I have is making statements public regarding how many are involved or how many will be participating...statements of this nature. NO STATEMENTS WHICH CANNOT BE SUPPORTED WITH ACTUAL INFORMATION. I have already experienced the subterfuge of statments regarding numbers...the over-inflating of true numbers. I have also seen this again recently regarding the Skeanatalis action. I believe the true numbers should be represented no matter how small they are. The effectiveness of this action will only be clouded by lies. The reputation of individuals, or groups, will be damaged by these types of statements...this is my opinion.

I am behind any action that is called upon by anyone, if I see it will advance our efforts as a whole...100%. I do feel it's necessary to impress upon all, the position The American Driver will be taking in regards to Mark and his group though. We will support and assist where ever we can, but I will not allow another situation to develope, which is obviously still a problem, between us. The American Driver will be restricting direct communication with the PA group. We will promote, support and assist in any way we can. We will be paying attention to what they put up on their site, or post to forums...information needing to get out to the public...but will research and evaluate any statements before publishing to our site or communicating to contacts we have (legislative assistants, representatives, PR/lobbyists, etc.) This I feel all here will agree to be extremely reasonable due to the past endeavor my brother and I became involved with regarding the PA group. To also make certain there's no misunderstandings...communication with anyone is welcomed by me, and my brother. We are always open to discussions and suggestions, but we have severed our communications with Mark and his group for very valid reasons and will not change our position on this issue. Our reputation as to who The American Driver is, and represents, is extremely important to us. I hope all involved will understand this.

So, Gearjammer...I'm with y'all. In the words of Larry the cableguy --
Git-r-done.

good points fred but in #3 the reason for this would be a shutdown 1 week before the last major holiday weekend of the summer
imagine when people try to go on there last vacation and there is no gas at pumps or food in stores to go on that vacation don't you think these people will be yelling at there officials really quickly?
and yes the boycott up until this time keep the word out
also yes we all need to know the agenda not to go off on other issues i agree 100%
and stop calling us the pa group we are a nationwide group if you want to admit it or not fred
other trucking isseus can and will follow after they see we could pull this off
i am very sceptical we can pull this off myself unless everyone here and in TACU and THEAMERICANDRIVER can get off there asses and get the word out and not by being behind a damn computer only i mean get off your asses and get the word out and beat it into the heads of those damn bullheaded drivers that don't want to listen just keep pounding it and pounding it
i already talked to dan little also about it and he and the oou will support this too plus he has a hell of a lot of national media at his fingertips
so if we want to agree on this lets go forward with it if not then lets not
would someone please put a poll up for this so we can get a straight YES OR NO ANSWER!!!!!!!
THANKS

I gotta admit, gearing this around a holiday is going to get the Country's attention more than around a primary. It's unfortunate that we as a Country put more thought into holiday's than we do our our Country's government, but that is how it is right now.

Just something for the group leaders who are already planning on another shutdown in Aug. to think about.....We all know just how hard it is to get enough cooperation to pull off a NationWide Shutdown. Putting it mildly it's a Gigantic undertaking. Here is something I have been saying and looking at for years, and I think it bears looking at and thinking about or at least discussing>>>>Unless things have drastically changed over the past few yrs., NYC has only 48hrs of supplies in stores and warehouses there to supply the city. If their daily deliveries are shut off for those 2 days, the entire city is in very bad shape. NYC being the hub of our financial activity here in the US (Wall St.), and the home of the UN, I think someone would be damn worried if the city ran out of provisions for it's people. All this being said, NYC can only be accessed by going through a tunnel, or across a bridge, unless you supply it by boat. It doesn't take much effort to block up those tunnels and bridges. It happens on a daily basis to some extent. Now you are all saying, "well, we can't do that it's illegal and we'll get arrested". "They'll tow the trucks and impound them". Well, how many are they going to arrest, and how many trucks can they tow in a day or two? This is a lot less of a major task to accomplish than a NationWide Shutdown, and probably just as if not even more effective. Just something to think about. It could be a possibility in any major city, including DC, but NYC is probably the easiest to blockade. Just an idea, and something especially you groups in the Northeast might want to look at closer. We need many more ideas, so don't be afraid to jump in and add your 2 cents.......EVERYONE

Bandit, what you are saying about NYC really applies to just about everywhere now.

Grocery stores have he largest supply, via there warehousing, but for the most part, stored depend on multiple deliveries every week.

With a shutdown, you may not shut down the foodservice industry workers, but those workers are dependent on the product getting to them before they can distribute it to their customers.

I also think it is very important to stick with the boycotts at the same time a shutdown is being planned. Just because a shutdown is going to be planned, doesn't mean work stops on the boycotts. I would actually recommend that the current boycott of exxon be pushed forward to include all the big oil companies who are getting fat on middle east oil. I think if you push an effort to go after all of them, you are going to get more overall support from the Country.

Back to the shutdown:
Right now we have TACU behind the date, and we have TACU giving us the word that Dan Little has US Cattlehaulers behind it as well.

We have The American Driver considering it, but not yet behind it.

When and if we get all three on board, and when a good plan is posted, I will put together a thread, stick it, and send out a newsletter here.

I can tell you one thing about this forum that makes it almost impossible to keep a train of through going for more than a day or two, and maybe you can come up with a way to get around it. Anyone and everyone who has had a good idea and posted it on one of the hundreds of threads here, can expect one maybe two make a positive or negative comment .... and at that point the "Good Idea" is buried by the next five posts with chit chat, and is then forgotten, or ignored.

I suggested July 4th six weeks ago, and others said that was to far out, that we needed to strike/boycott now. That is when I started working on the ExxonMobil ..... Pilots Oil Boycott signs. Look at the number of people have even looked at the Boycott Sign Thread, 145 people have looked at signs, and only 45 have copied them ... big woop! What needs to be done to advertize this forum, on other websites with a banner "BOYCOTT EXXONMOBIL FOREVER", and the Trucker's Forum webite There just are not enough people coming to this website to see what's cooking. I was hopping that some trucker in convoys would have banners made from the signs. Kinko's can make banners from a post card and blow it up as big as you want it. Then when there is another convoy somewhere else in the country the banners can be shipped by UPS so the others can use the banners. But organization ..... what organization? Those who aren't interested in getting involved, could donate money to have the banners made and to cover shipping around the country. Well that happen ....hell no.

I started "Letter to the Editor", only 49 people looked at it, and lord only knows how many really wrote letters to their editors.

It would appear that good ideas, not just mine, just disappear in the jungle of threads and chit chats. There are only a dozen people on this forum being productive ........ other's rattling on for pages about the price of dish soap, or how to make your owe toilet paper, and that's okay, but put that stuff in the right thread and stop cluttering the place up. If people want to gab get the other person's email address and use it to gab rather than loading up the forum with trivia. The "In The News" thread was meant to be a place to put news items that all Truckee's could read and use in there letters to the editor, or when we talk call our Congressmen's Washington Office, so that they don't sound like a bunch of hysterical nut cases.

Now some are talking about 8/25 for a Shutdown just as prices start going down again. We should have been into this no later than July 4th when we could have all been our local parades with banners on the sides of our cars and trucks. I don't know, but I'm beginning to think we spinning our wheels. There not enough people, not enough passion, not enough planning, not enough organization, just a lot of chit chat...

So that's my Chit-Chat for the day.

Excellant Post, and all very good points......Bravo Foxx....I have to agree totally. The attention span here leaves a lot to be desired. I haven't seen or heard of many if any body else making up flyers from your signs, and passing them out, or posting signs anywhere, or anything really. Mostly just sitting here and talking. Wake Up People....You have to get up off your asses and make this thing work.....Don't depend on a few to do it all for you. You're gonna lose big time if you do.......

I will be truthful one of the reasons I didnt hear about the Boycott till recently is because of the source it was originated from , I dont go to the site for Personal and Proffesional reasons..
However This Shutdown will work if done precisely and correctly, 90 days is a good number because in these first 60 days we talk about we get that word out we have 60 days to talk to everyone including Media.
Rumors Spread quick like I said talk about it at dinner playing cards at the bar..
Hey wow did you hear what going on Aug 25th.... Truckers, ports, Businesses are shutting down Because of Fuel Prices...start talking now..
I have been In Unions and Have been the Union Steward and Chief Steward and Know whats involved inot getting the word out...Ive already talked with countless reps from different large organizations and Unions, As Long as we are calling it a shutdown, alot of safety Issues can happen that day across the Country and alot of people getting sick...

How much longer can we wait, April 1st was a strike, then May 1st was supposed to be a shut down, then i hear people were calling for a July 4 strike.

Why don't we just wait till the end of the year after a new president is elected. (Sarcastic).

If you are gonna shut down pick a date within 30 days and do it. The longer you keep waiting is more O/Ops will lose their business. If you plan to do this you don't need 2 months to get the word out. If everyone sticks to their guns and supports this you could get a shutdown completed in 2 weeks.

I have been in support of the shut down, and have shutdown in April, again in May and since them shutdowns have not been working very much. After being in this industry for 30 years and not being able to start again, I like many are suffering, and the long we wait the more we all go down the tubes.

Need Shutdown and need it A S A P! ! ! !

I have never said I know anything about The trucking Industry and I dont, however I know who to talk to I know Unions, I know Politics, remember this goes beyond the Trucking Industry... This encompasses a whole nation In every aspect of life.
what I said wasnt meant to be personal however like someothers that have also said it too its time to act and not just sit behind a Screen.
My plans this week alone are to go to 4 Community Board Meetings, as well as 2 chamber of Commerce Meetings to educate the American Citizens On whats going on there all mad now its time to act on it., As well help TACU with the Food drive. and coordinate the next protest on Harrisburg for the end of June, and have things ready for June 19th when we take this Protest to Albany, NY...
