Well I can't let this one go. I feel as if you're speaking to another specific person, but...this must be responded to.
The loss of brotherhood among drivers is actually very easy to explain, but very difficult to regain. Since the '73 shut-down our government implemented a strategy to ensure they wouldn't be faced with that situation again. The sad part is that we Americans are so easily fooled. They applied a simple technique from the art of war..."divide from within." By giving tax credits to the big trucking companies to hire schooled trained drivers...our government essentially put within the truckers ranks individuals not only inexperienced in the industry, but average joes which never had anyone teach them about true brotherhood. The lure of making big bucks as a company driver brought every tom, dick and harry to the industry. Now I'm not saying these newby's are by any means not able to succeed as drivers, but I am saying the ethics of who a truck driver is are not taught. Now you are seeing the result of that loss of ethics. Keep in mind our government never does anything on a short term basis. We have been divided from within.
Now...unless you believe men are incapable of reaching an understanding of the truth, everyone of these drivers out on the big road can be shown the truth. You just need to commit yourself to making a difference and take the time to get through. And like a wildfire...eventually there's thousands of drivers beginning to spread the truth, and the brotherhood that once existed may be renewed only in a different aspect. Instead of a father taught son and all drivers were of this teaching...you have men pissed that our government has played them for pawns and they'll band together like Americans do...determined to persevere. Now with this being said, the same principle applies to the American citizens, only the truth is a hell of lot harder to accept. The method of getting through must be cautiously thought out.
As to the boycott...I'm finding it hard to believe you actually think this couldn't work with the current situation of fuel prices. The majority of Americans attention is on the ever increasing price of fuel. They are trying to understand what the hell is going on - even the rich ones. I'm certain by now the majority has figured out it's because our country is being screwed by imported resources, and that we do have a means to get off of imports. Through proper presentation, to educate those that don't know yet, you fuel the fire by giving information about the companies doing business with imports and the companies which are not, calling on a boycott to force the companies, screwing Americans, out of business. It's actually a no brainer when you think about it. It's not a boycott requiring people to sacrafice anything...it's a boycott that directs not to purchase from specific companies. Where there's a Shell - there's a BP. Where there's an Exxon - there's an Amoco or Flying J or Arco...get my point? It is an action which could begin to make the difference needed.
Sorry for the long winded response.
