Hello all. I'm a journalist with a small award-winning publication in Illinois interested in doing a story about independent truckers and the general state of the industry. I'm looking for more than a couple quotes; I want to do something that will have have an impact, perhaps a profile of one or two truckers.

If anyone out there is or knows of any interesting, progressive-minded owner-operaters, preferably based in Illinois, and ideally in Central Illinois, please email me through the site or at rlnave@gmail.com. Thanks everyone. I know you all are hurting, so you're in my thoughts.

Peace.

If Indianapolis isn't too far for you to travel...there's an owner-operator there that would be willing to speak with you. His name is Darrell Breeden. You can get his contact info from his site... JT Express Trucking, Expedite Service, Brokerage, 48 States

Are you willing to speak with any drivers? I can contact several, informing them about your location preference. It may be possible to achieve contact from some of the guys while they're passing through. But I can't make any promises. Fuel is truely killing these guys out there, and they're being extremely cautious of the loads they except. Basically they're not wanting to get too far from home with the spiralling fuel prices. Spoke with a friend here in Texas that runs from here to the northwest corner. He said the price of fuel increased 0.25 cents overnight. They went through in one direction paying a certain rate...then the next day were coming back through and paid 0.25 cents more per gallon. This completely destroys a driver's ability to determine what profit, if any, he'll make on a load. Needless to say, they lost their butts on that load.

Yeah, even though, I want a "poster trucker" who lives in my area, I'd like to get as much input as possible from owner-operators regardless of where they live even if it's just for background. I'm completely new to this world. Thanks again.
