Reasons why we are shutting down

Out of control fuel prices with no government involvement to control further increases

Our presence in a war to protect a foreign country that is a supplier to us for oil. Why are we not getting oil in return for their protection. Why are we placing our military in harms way to only have to pay more at the pump.

Outrageous taxes we pay for trucking, road tax that is not fixing our roads. License plate increases from states needing more money to cover road repairs and better truck routes that are not getting built or maintained.

D.O.T. officers that are not trained properly to fully inspect and honor the Federal Trucking Regulations. To many officers now are just paid off a performance perspective. We don't need more officers out there just looking for anything to make their salary. They were hired to serve and protect, not like today to harass and torment with the stroke of a pen to either tie you up in court or to be forced to just pay the fines to cover the officers salary and also become a money maker for the state. Its time we follow Federal Rules, and if there is a violation, truckers and trucking companies should have the right to be able to have an attorney address this with the Federal Government on the issue and not have to miss any kind of work. STATE LAWS DO NOT PREEMPT FEDERAL LAWS.

Shippers,Brokers and Receivers will have to start paying the Fuels Surcharge that is suppose to be passed on to the trucking concern. I think when these organizations fail to pass on the surcharge they should have to pay a penalty and make it a stiff penalty, three time violators have there authority revoked just like we would for hauling in a unsafe manor.

All GOVERNMENT subsidies cut out of trucking. Deregulation was done to create a level playing field, but in fact it aloud the government and its officials to help out or aid large trucking companies to succeed at the expense of all tax payers including the small trucking concerns and Independents that pay allot of taxes.

No subsidies for payroll
No subsidies for insurance for employees
No subsidies for training of new employees
No subsidies for government contracts of freight hauling
No subsidies for new equipment programs
No subsidies for insurance of general liability
No subsidies for insurance for cargo liability
No subsidies for trucking company expansion of facilities
No subsidies for fuel stored on premises or at select service facilities
No subsidies for plates
No subsidies for operating authority
No subsidies for tax incentive programs
No subsidies for legal representation
No subsidies for rail companies
No subsidies for water way companies

If we could get this much stopped, we would have a pretty good ball game, it would be fair to all trucking concerns to compete in a fair free trade manor.

I think a minimum rate should also be established. We have a minimum wage, and many of us have not been able to achieve that with the added expense of fuel and insurance increases not including operating authority and plate increases.

I think a maximum of 7 days and we need to be paid in full for our services.
If we have to wait over 7 days or longer for payment we should be able to charge a high rate of interest per day like a short term loan. If the companies need credit - LET THEM GET A LOAN.

LATE PAYMENTS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION OF OPERATING AUTHORITY AND SEIZURE OF SURETY BONDS. THREE TIME VIOLATOR WILL NOT EVER BE ABLE TO OBTAIN ANY AUTHORITY AGAIN.

Companies that have unsafe working conditions should be penalized and reported to help inform drivers they may be placed in harms way while they are getting loaded or unloaded.

Companies that have safety programs or policies that state we cannot be in control of the loading or unloading of our equipment and proper chaining, binding, strapping or safe securement of load for safe transportation upon public highways need be reported and fined heavily for placing us in possible harms way.

Companies that have these type of policies shall become fully responsible for the securement of the product, and if they choose not to or they decide to unload or refuse service or the driver decides to have the company unload the vehicle if it is not safe for transport, the original contracted rate for the load must be paid to the truck weather or not the truck transported anything at all.

Truck Ordered Not Used (TONU) if not notified within a 24 hour period to cancel by the company, shipper, broker or receiver shall be paid for full contract rate of load

Detention Pay shall start after 2 hours at carriers set rate. This will apply upon arrival to get loaded or get unloaded. Detention beyond 8 hours for loading will result in full contract rate paid to truck and truck may proceed to next job, or may continue to wait on load at detention rate to include meals and hotel or motel expenses. Drivers that are held in a holding pattern beyond the 2 hours of detention will also eliminate them from having to meet a set time for delivery to ensure safe delivery. Drivers that will be prevented from reaching there destination for the next pick up to be compensated fully for the full amount of the load they will not be able to perform due to the detention of their service.

I think this would be a good start

Please add more if needed or feel free to make changes for the better

The Federal Reserve Board will announce its vote on the Interest Rate Cut at 2:15pm Eastern Time today. I'll be sure to post the results and what initially happens with oil prices and the markets. Truckers will need this info for their next moves.

Good Morning Bandit, Good Morning All:

I emailed, and called my Congressmen this morning.

Well the clock is ticking, and I fear the dumbing down of America is working. I'm getting the felling that most Americans are thinking what's the use, that we can't beat the oil companies and speculator, so why bother. But want have they got to loss, their jobs, their incomes, their way of life? Well many of us are already there, or soon will be. So why not knuckle down fight like a banshee?

U.S. Senate: Senators Home

We can't get the nutcakes to go away, but it would be great if they started their own thread so they could just set around and spit on each other's windshields. If you don't respond they will dry up and blow away.

Yes we need a plan. We need to do research: example; it appears that most if not all of our congressmen are unaware of the ethanol debacle; that there is crude oil just setting in the ground that would end our need to import crude from the OPEC nations. That there are more efficient forms of energy than biofuels. Rather than subsidize Monsanto $5.00 for ever gallon of ethanol they produce that money could be used to develop hydrogen fuels, Natural Gas cars, cars that run on compressed air, conversion kits to convert gasoline engines to Natural Gas, and hydrogen.

When you walk out onto the battle you don't start thinking about which weapon to carry after to get to the battlefield, you plan ahead. We can't call, write or email our legislators and sound like we don't know want we're talking about. I've written a number business plans over the years, and learned that if you use buzz words and phrases that stick in the mind your only 30% effective. We need to be 100% effective in getting our point and FACTS across to those who have the power to turn things around. We need a leader in the ranks that can use buzz words that help keep peoples attention. You have to make the point so strongly that the person your trying to get the point across to can't deny the possibility that you just might be right, or that in fact you are right. It's like writing a patent; if you don't make your point clear about how the widget works you don't get your patent issued. The way to get a Venture Capitalist Group to give you seed money for your startup phase of you project is to convince them that you can do the job and make them money. You use buzz words (I call it mild shock therapy), you give them the facts related to the market place that your product is aimed at. My point is you can't have everyone talk at the same time.

So, we need to form a plan that includes all Americans. We need to have the facts before we jump into the battle. We can't let anger over take our objective. We need to write hundreds and thousand of letters to the media, our Congressmen, radio an TV commentators. We need to call, and email our legislators ....... but we all need to press the same points in our own words. I call it pinching and poking citizenship ..... if you don't hear back keep poking.

How many have read the thread I added last night about converting cars and trucks to natural gas and hydrogen. "Imagine filling you tanks for $170". This isn't an be all, end all, it's just a beginning of a dialog for changing the way we look at our future need for energy. Truckers need diesel, but maybe in the near future they won't. We need gasoline for our 4 wheels, or may not.

But if we don't start putting a bug in the ears of those who push the buttons we are just spinning our wheels.

The links below can help us understand the cause an effect of those who are pushing America's buttons.

One other thing. If we don't see the May 5th Strike doing what it is intended to do there is always June 5th, July 5th, when fuel prices will be heading for the "Outer Limits" of insanity.

We are already paying $4.01 here.

There are a number of logging trucks in this area that have parked their rigs, and the mill on the edge of town has had to shut down.

Global warming? We had two inches of snow this morning!

Hi everyone! Congratulations to the ones who were able to go to DC. I started my owm protest Sunday 4-27. Made posters and placed them on my vehicles. Sunday I parked them in my neighborhood and then in afternoon I drove to our I-90 Supercenter Wal-mart park there for awhile then went to Staples, Petro truck stop, Flying J in South Beloit, and Road Ranger. The people in this area are hurting but they been hurting for so long they are becoming numb. I contacted my congressional officials. I will be passing out flyers about shutdowns. I not a trucker driver but I am a American citizen.

BP oil posted a 63% rise in profits for the first quarter. Shell oil a 14% rise.

U.S. House Committee Invites OPEC Secretary General to Testify

By Tina Seeley
April 30 (Bloomberg) -- The chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee invited the secretary general of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to testify at a hearing on rising fuel prices.
Representative John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, sent a letter inviting Abdalla Salem El-Badri to testify at a May 22 hearing, according to an e-mailed release from the committee.
``Americans are forgoing planned vacations, playing higher prices for food, and struggling to pay for their daily commutes -- all because of gas prices,'' Conyers said in a statement. ``They deserve to know why.''
The committee will hold a series of hearings on rising fuel prices and rising oil company profits, starting May 7, according to the statement.
To contact the reporter on this story: Tina Seeley in Washington at tseeley@bloomberg.net.

I would like to see a new web site that is laid out to be user friendly, It could still be linked to the main, but made to be consistent with the shutdown and not all cluttered up. I think what we see now is paid advertisement to cover the web space. To bad I think it is to late in the game to start a cleaner version of this time or someone needs to get in and clean up the one that is in operation now.

We will see later today how Bernanke will stimulate the stock brokers so they can make more good buys and then sell off. This will once again devalue the dollar if he lowers it again, and start precious metals and oil on the rise again. We need to have the interest raised to at least 7% and the banks held at 3% profit on lending money for a total of 10%. This will drive the cost back down on foreign purchases, and give reason for our companies here to stay here. If we started a rebuild of our infrastructure we would be able to put most of our people back to work. If we get people back to work, they are going to be paying taxes rather than receiving them from our current government give away programs. People working and making a living wage will buy things they need and want, this is what stimulates the economy. Income tax, sales tax and all the other taxes that we have been paying dearly for in the past. Where is the money other than in a bunch of corrupt politicians pockets and bank accounts.

Why hasn't anyone come up with the idea to make a sign to put in your front yard? I am going to make a 4X4 sign and put it in my front yard to protest high fuel and ask the public to do the same and stop buying any fuel or food but what is necessary. We can put smaller signs on our cars and just go to different stores and park them for a while and then move to the next. We need to make copies of the shutdown and distribute them, but many places of business do not appreciate that, so the car signs might be the best. If a store or business becomes disgruntled, show how you will patronize them by leaving without a purchase

The news just talked about the idea to remove the oil from the stock market and the result was laughter and its ridiculous. The only reason for that statement in my opinion was we would hurt the poor stock brokers and traders from making a fast big buck

The following websites should be sent to your Congressmen. They are either misinformed, or just stupid.

You might look at these websites and use the material there when talking to others about why they need to join the May 5th Strike. Email these website to all you friends, and tell them to pass them on to their friends. We need to have this nation buzzing about this deception that is raising fuel prices. This is one way to bring the general citizen into the Strike. Send this to you local newspapers, your TV and radio stations. I just sent them to Bush, my Lap-dog Congressmen, to Bill O'Really?, and everyone on my email list.

There is no reason to think we need OPEC! We just need to get our legislators to get their butt in gear and legislate a 100% effort to get this oil into the market, and to start building more refineries ASAP.

I was also in that convoy to DC and I'm pumped to get more support for the cause!

However, I'm not exactly sure what to tell my non-trucking friends what's going down on the fifth since I've heard a few different things. I heard it was a "no buy" day and I've heard that the truckers are going on strike for one day only. I checked the website and (no offense) it's not really that helpful for finding the information I want.

Could someone please clarify this for me? A few of them want to know how to help and I just don't know exactly what to tell them. Thanks everyone!
