North Carolina authorizes temporary fuel tax change

North Carolina authorizes temporary fuel tax change

Gov. Beverly Perdue recently signed off on a change to the fuel tax in North Carolina to prevent it from dropping. Struggling to cope with dwindling funds to pay for roadwork, lawmakers endorsed legislation to ensure the state’s fuel tax rate wouldn’t go down this month as expected.
Previously SB200, the new law makes the current fuel tax limit of 29.9 cents per gallon the minimum rate for the next two years. Without the change, the tax was expected to drop to 28 cents Wednesday, July 1.
The tax is composed of a 17.5-cent flat rate and a 12.4-cent wholesale component. It is adjusted twice annually based on wholesale prices.

Yep, and the reason is the same nationwide.
They spent the money on something else the past ten years or so and now they are short.
    Surprise, surprise!
