    NC I-40 Closed @ MM #3

I avoid this section of I-40 like it has the plague. Here's one of the many reasons....

As Reported In The Citizen-Times (Rebel's Hometown Newspaper)

    October 25, 2009

Rockslide closes I-40 at mile marker 3

"It could take up to three months to completely clear debris on Interstate 40 after a rock slide this morning that closed the highway in both directions at mile marker 3, according to officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation."

"Mile marker 3 is near the Tennessee border in Haywood County."

"The rock slide happened at around 2 a.m. Three vehicles ran into the rocks in accidents that happened within minutes of the slide, N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Brian Tucker said. One woman was injured, but the extent of her injuries are not known," he said.

"The large boulders crashed through fences and other measures designed to stop smaller rocks," said Joel Setzer, a division engineer with the department of transportation.

    Wimp!

This is about the 3rd we've had around here, but the first on the interstate.
I forgot to post this last nite once I learned it was the NC/TN line. The other spot it happens a lot is about an hour east from there through Hickory Nut gorge.

    Ya'll be careful out there'

Heard it might be 3 months before the interstate is reopened. Sure glad somebody told me of a better way to run

Yeah, the three months looks like a minimum.
Yesterday as they were starting, it slid even more, almost crushing the work crew.
Knowing this state, they are probably going to take a long time and not do it right.
From the looks of it, it might not be a bad idea to just go ahead and blast some of the loose stuff away first, before it slides off later.
    But that's wishful thinking.
I know 2xR gave you an alternate around.
Another for y'all to keep in mind that is more direct is SR 19-23. It runs parallel to I-40 thru there and might get you off and back on the other side of the slide.
    Just watch your speed.

All I can tell you is, if you want a job (that's the translation), you better start learning.

They have been saying that for years! Why should we change our language to please them, shouldn't they change their language to our language? We got to do that when us American's go to somewhere like Japan or some place like that.
