| Moosin' Around Admin | Jevic Transportation President David Gorman announced today on their website that they are shutting down permanently, citing fuel costs as one of their primary reasons. From their website: Quote:
For those that thought only the small independents were going to be pushed out of business because of fuel prices, here is a good example of a larger company that has now been forced to close the doors. This puts many people out of work, form the offic personell, to the company drivers who will be searching for another company to drive for, and also quite a few owner operators who will now be looking for another company to lease on to. For any company drivers who don't think this is their problem, better think again because unless something changes, your company could be next

| Moosin' Around Admin | This is a 27 year old company, and even after the recent downsizing there were still 1900 employees left that will now be looking for work. And it isn't just company drivers, it is the office staff, and owner operators who were leased on to Jevic. I just finished reading an article on philly.com where the drivers stated they had no idea this was going to happen either. Basically, they were told that the freight that was there now will be delivered, and then they are done. This means there will be even more owner operators out there who are desperate to cover their truck payments and feed their family, so some of you who are lucky enough to be hauling good paying freight will have more people out there willing to haul it cheaper because they are desperate. The company I used to drive for gave out the news the same way. I seen the writing on the wall due to the way the industry was headed, but 40 other drivers found out before they got their backhaul back home that it would be their last load. So they basically had a couple days to think about what they were going to do next. |

| My husband is looking for other work. If he finds another job, I'm going to park his truck in the front yard and put a big sing on it "BROKE, CAN'T AFFORD FUEL". |

A typical basket full of groceries will easily cost you over $300 now, not to mention the cost of gas just to get to the damn grocery store in the first place. And it is just going to get worse. People need to wake up, and quick. If they don't see what happened to Jevic as that wake up call, I don't know what it is going to take. Many people got involved in trying to change things during February and March, and much of that movement went back quiet after April. I hope this will help fuel the fire that was in these people just a few short months ago, as well as gets many more people thinking about their future (or lack of)
