The Ontario Trucking Association says the current fuel supply problems at Imperial Oil are starting to have an impact on trucking companies. David Bradley, OTA president says some members have not been able to find fuel and others are seeing prices spike by as much as 20 percent. Others have reported independent fuel outlets refusing to honour discount cards and demanding cash. Bradley says if truckers can't get fuel or if they can't pass on increased costs, they are out of business, and if they are out of business, Ontario's economy stops. Trucks haul 90 percent of all consumer products and food shipped into, out of, and within Ontario, and 75 percent of Ontario's trade with the US.
In a letter to trucking companies Imperial Oil said it expects to resume production before the end of month, and hopes to resolve current issues as soon as possible.
