My husband uses Magellian ( not sure of the spelling) Yes the bitch talks to him when he doesn't do it her way) But he will also call me to get directions for him.
Always have the cell phone with you. Be sure your paper work has the receivers phone #.
I've had loads that had one delivery address, but they wanted it delivered to a different warehouse. You won't be paid for the extra stop.
I've had loads that weren't expected when the dispatcher said to have them there.
ALWAYS CALL THE CUSTOMER AND CONFIRM THE DETAILS!!
Mapquest will takes you to the front door---but the docks are in the back off another street. And getting around the "block " can be a nightmare.
When I drove I even called 911 "please help me now BEFORE I'm good and lost."
Have stopped police and been "escorted" to the receiver. (with lights)
Usually the person answering the phone doesn't have a clue what the truck route is into their dock. If they seem to be unsure ask to talk to the receiving dock. I've even had the dock foreman hand the phone over to another driver to give me directions--and they got me there.
Don't rely on one source. The electronic aids will get to the neighborhood, but the phone call gets you to the dock.

I think Navigon makes the best. It's pricey at $500-$550 but it has all this - check it out:
  • Extra guidance with exclusive 3D Reality View™ and Lane Assistant - These are the actual road signs with their text!
  • Free Lifetime Traffic
  • Exclusive Zagat® Ratings and Reviews
  • Intuitive menus
  • Stunning 2D and 3D map views
  • Clear voice guidance and spoken street names with advanced text-to-speech technology
  • High-contrast 4.3-inch full-color, touchscreen display
  • Easy-to-read 16:9 widescreen format
  • Bluetooth® technology enables easy hands-free calling
  • USB connection to pc
As soon as I'm able to I'll get one. Now, don't I sound like a commercial??!
