I have a customer that I'm more, or less, dedicated to. I go there a lot, but, I'm still undecided about the best route. Each way has it's own benefits, and, of course, it's own down side.

The route is from Greensboro, NC to Leominster, MA and the load is non-hazardous.

So far I've ran I-85, to I-95, to I-495, to Hwy 50/301, to the Jersey Pike and continue up I-95 to I-91, to I-84, etc... This way is the shortest, and flattest, but, there is remarkable traffic and a lot of tolls. I don't like this route.

I've also ran Hwy 29 North to I-64 West, to I-81 North, to I-84 East, etc. This way is about fifty miles further, and is very hilly, but there's only one toll (you ain't crossing the Hudson for free, no where), and the traffic is a lot lighter. The extra miles and hills causes me to not like this route, either.

The boss don't care which way I go. I guess he figures he can pay the tolls, or, the extra fuel for the longer route and hills. It should wash out on expenses.

So, someone convince me one way is better than the other so I can stop frettin' about it.

Oh! I should also add, if there is a chance of winter weather in the Appalachian or Pocono mountains this entire question answers itself. Weather will always be a determining factor.

ten dash four on the mapquest. I also like to use google maps and although a little harder to read, I use TruckMiles.com by ProMiles Software - Free Truck Routing, Maps, Trips, Mileages, Diesel Fuel Prices, Road Conditions and more!(WoW, what a link). Truck miles will also give you a listing of truck stops along the route. When I'm going some place new, I use all the mapping services and use google earth to get an aerial view of the new landscape I'm about to visit. 2xR hates to be misplaced.

How to get there isn't the question. How to get there the best is.

If your making money no matter which way you go.
Take the route you like best.

If you dont like any route, pack up and go home.

Better to have a job and get on with it than be picky about the best way.

Actually, I thought I might take the route I disliked the least.

Good point. I didn't even notice that on the options list.
I have the state of mind that the minute I leave the terminal, I am on my way home. Never going some place, but, rather, heading home.

Well, nick2008, that was the entire point of the thread. To discover what my fellow truckers might know about the many different routes to my destination. Through the history of trucking, truckers have discussed (and cussed) the various routes they use. It is a learning tool, sharing information, helping others, ... Besides, what's wrong with being picky? Picky is good.

I know what your sayin lol.
How many route are there you can take being reasonable now ???
if your boss aint worried try a few more get the old maps out and have a gander (look) you never know you might come across a gem of a place to stop. It's all well and good trusting to sat nav's and puters but a good old map tends to be best.
Hope you find the one for you two-timer (2xR)

Change your dipper @ least 1 a day LOL
keep it rollin bud we're all in the same boat just some with bigger bucket's
