Hey,
Steve Hamilton from Chicago here. I was just wondering, looking to hear from, spouses of truckers. What it's like for your husband/wife being away, how you cope financially, with kids, etc. Drop me a line,

Well we wont talk about money till u back track and read the post here and what going on in trucking and I belive u will find that answer.

Kids r great, we have 1 he's grown now and starting his own family, but at 16 when he started really putting me through the first stage of empty
nest. always gone then he would go with his dad on the truck.
He grew up around trucks and a trucking family.
By the time he turned 20 all he talked about was trucking...lol talk about using the mommy card,
did not know I could cry and carry on so good.
could have won an emmy. Had a great girlfriend who is now his wife with a baby on the way and I did not want him or her to live the life.
It's hard when they are otr. You learn to be a plummer/roofer/mech/ and how to cut the lawn right.
The most important thing is trust!
Never question not all things seem as they appear.
a driver is a driver weather male or female.
and there is nothing wrong with a friendly talk out on the road, or company with a meal.
And that stands on the home front to.
It's great now with cell phone's, Only a phone call away.
For the pass 10 years my hubby has run local,Just the State but now the way things are he had to go back to the road.
At times it's a hard life. But I have friends and all of them one way or another are around or have been truckers.
A good meal clean clothes a cold 6 pack in the fridge when they get home, and all is good........

Hey, thanks for the input, I really appreciate it! I can understand how tough it must me for the "stay-at homes" (moms or dads). I know my wife & daughter miss me terribly when I'm gone, and that's just two days a week! I can only imagine what spouses of the otr drivers go through. Hey, thanks again & stay in touch!

Steve

TN. TRUCKERS WIFE is on a distinguished road
My husband used to drive from TN. to California, he would be gone for a week. I had 2 children at home approx. 10 and 2 years. Man was it tough, I hated it and i don't think i every really got used to it. The first trip he ever made to Ca. I cried for the whole week, we had been married 20 years and had never been apart. 2 days is not to bad because you leave one day and are coming home soon. It is such a tough life and i know the average person dosen't have a clue how tough it is on the truckers and their families. My husband did this for about 3 years and i couldn't take it anymore. TAKE CARE.

I think now is worse then befor.
They are staying out longer while they search for loads.
Sitting on week-ends when they should be running.
Tomorrow we be better.

freaking rookie is on a distinguished road
Steve,
I faced this same issue some 17 years ago. I was in a pre-med program when my wife and I learned she was pregnant. I thought that if I go through with my dream of becoming a doctor I would not be around much for the next 12 years. I would miss seeing my son grow. I gave up my dream, built my window cleaning business and raised my son. I do not regret my desision one bit. Yes, I do fantisize about my dream, but I fell good about being with my son, greater. He is moving on with his life, so now I'm pursuing my second dream. Being a long-haul trucker. My advice, put your childern first. They need thier dad!
