Is the May 5th shutdown a lost cause?

Do you think that this shut down is all for nothing? Do you think all it's going to do is hurt the drivers wallets more? If so, let me hear your reasons why. Be gentle here, I'm emotionally sensitive. I know we all can be nice and constructive.

yes, it IS a lost cause. the oil companies are controlling the pricing, not the feds or state guberments. the oil companies have a mission and that is to increase the profits for the stockholders. i have been told recently that we have so much coal in america its unbelievable......and guess what, that coal CAN BE turned into gasoline. why isn't that being done....??

the drivers that are sitting at home are losing more money each day. some claimed they own their equipment.....well good for them. but other o/o's do not own thier equipment, or have a lease purchase plan they have to pay each week. think those people can afford to sit....???

further, many politicians are in the back pockets of the oil companies or thier subsideraries..........think they are going to make waves at thier free money....??

like Jay Leno said in his monolog last nite (i tapped it for viewing today),

"even Dick Cheney has been doing great, notice how he hasn't had any heart attacks lately"....?????

The only way it will be a lost cause is if people don't get the results they want and everyone gives up on the long term goal. I don't see everyone giving up at this point.

With any event like this, you have to expect the worst, hope for the best, and be ready to take what you have learned to do better in the next go around.

I would hope that goals were set for the amount of support this shutdown would receive, and if that amount wasn't reached, research would be made to find out why and then a new plan be made to improve things for the next round.

Will it be a lost cause for those who think that May 5th is the last battle in the war? Yes. But, those who are gearing up for just one battle are not the people you want leading your war.

Things that would have helped this battle:

• More forums uniting with this cause.
  Are there any other forums actively supporting this shutdown? If they aren't, is it because they fear some trucking company or other advertiser might pull their ads?
  I know of one other forum that created a "STRIKE" forum after I created this shutdown forum, but there is no real representation from the staff of that forum showing support for this shutdown, it is more like something they added because they felt they would piss people off if they didn't add it.
• Better Organization
  I will preach that forever. Success is greatly dependent on solid planning, and proper execution of those plans.

But the Gubermant needs to do there job for a change and do something for the country for once. Throwing the country into a re-session is not going to make them rich. If they wanted to get rich they need to start drilling on our own soil and stop sending US money outside the states. We will never use up all of our resources. Stop lining the pockets of our rivals and start lining OUR pockets.

This shutdown I think has reached it optimum momentum. Over the last few days I've talked to several O/O's on the road and they all said the same thing. " It didn't work in the 70's why would it work now, the Gov't don't care ". I wasnt coherent for that shutdown but didn't anyone learn from that episode to make this one better? We have more technology today then back then, it shoulda been bigger this time around. And how many times can this go around? Before the little boy who cried wolf syndrom is spread.

There should have been better organization, and hosting and timing with this. And their needs to be FUNDING! Come on were not talking about the local steel mill on strike, it's stopping the whole friggin country!
Why wasn't JB, Werner, SNI ect..in on this? I know their the cause problems with the brokers, but this wasn't about brokers. I know they buy fuel cheaper then we do, but they still have to buy it.

This is too funny. As I'm typing this I get a mass forward TXT message saying "fuel strike on May 2nd, don't buy gas all day!" Now, I no this is silly and won't work either but that just goes to show that no one knows about the truckers strike on the 5th. Why is there no emails flooding my friends and your friends boxes? Or their txt's on their phones, or TV or radio ad's? Did any flood a candidates email and voicemail? And they need better rep's.

ANd one more thing, why is so much time being spent emailing the media telling them about a " Big Scary Strike" before theres anyone striking. Let them find out the hard way when it's a BIG SCARY STORY. Not before. Spend the time emailing your friends and family and neighbors. And tell them to do the same.

ok here it is. i totally believe in all everybody is doing. i think it is great. i just have the feeling something is missing. the way i look at it is Dubya needs to grab his balls and tell the oil fields to produce more (they have refused to do so up to this point) oil or else. tell them do it or i will find people who will. not gonna happen with the election year going on. i know it's not all him but he can and does have the power to do so. if he really cared about us he would. i look at it the way he can take his measly 600$ and shove it up his ass and use that money to get people to open up the oil feilds. the next 6 months will be interesting and the next year will be seeing alot lot of poverty and a reccession that will effect us all. glad i like fried spam and crap cans of floor meat with hot sauce sandwichs. things are fixin to get rough.

i very rarely watch a presidential news conference, but yesterday i was tapping a tv show that was interupted by the pres. now mind you i don't watch or listen to any president, but i figured why not.

he did go on to say that we need more refineries and congress has been blocking that. he did go on to say he proposed several ways of correcting this with congress and they turned him down. he did go on to say that the refineries we have now are at capacity doing all they can. he did say the demand is higher than the refineries can keep up with, and he did mention some area in america(?) where there is oil but congress is with holding drilling rights or whatever due to the enviroment, but Bush did say, it can be done safely with all the technology we have today.

i have never been a republican, but yesterday, it would appear Bush was doing his best to get more oil flowing.


as for why this insipid "strike or shutdown" isn't working was prety much said before, that back in the 70's it was a failure. the prices never went down. there is NO ORGANIZATION to this farce of current. people think there is, but it just ain't there. even "Bandit" was going off on one of the other supporters, a few days ago saying he wanted updates, and she supplied all she could. he "bandit" and a few others are like lost sheep.........stay parked or not earning any money will get them the wolves at the front (and) rear doors.........

i have no sympathy for any o/o that shuts down because he hears others doing so for the "cause", and he in turn allows the creditors to come after him.............because some o/o's can afford to do this for a week or two doesn't mean they all can...........

and to "donate" money to a fund for o/o's that cannot pay thier bills is BS too.........i can see that money going "south" or to an Indian Casino real fast.....

from this point, i don't wish any of them (the lost sheep) any best of luck in thier farce of continuing.

just read the boards and read the disgust of those who are seeing this as a failure as i said it WOULD BE..............they just don't like it that i am right....they can't stand that i am right.............it gnaws at them each and every time a so-called rally has so few turn-outs. and by the way, people in Washington,DC are so used to protests and marches and such, sure they were out there waving and cheering, its a way for them to get on tv and call thier friends on the cell phone to have them look for them......yeah right.....people are supporting this farce...........
