School Ideas.

Ok, so here's the deal.

I'm 21 years old.

Have had one wreck, no tickets [knock on wood].

I want a School that will offer better training than Swift.

Like a smaller school, that will finance lodging, and all that.

If you know of any, please let me know.

For company sponsored training, the best training, hands down, is Schneider.

As for going out on your own and paying for the training, find out what their schedule is. How many total hours of training are they going to provide, and how much of that is on the road, not on a closed training area.

Well. I want to be able to have more one on one training if needed, even before I go with a trainer. I want to know what I'm doing as far as operating the truck safely.

well at least you had the accident in a non CDL vehicle....

as for schools, they fill up rather fast,and Schnieder is about the better one from what i have heard too.

as for lodging, say hello (in most instances) to the bunk house/ or bunk rooms....motels can be expensive, even at the discount rates they get. since you are a female of course, you will be bunking with same.

smaller schools, now if you mean pay on your own??? like a private school...?? i dunno, check your area.

some state universities offer truck driving lessons, but here too, you will have to do a google search, and as for paying for lodging, that pretty much comes from your tuition, like any other college.

Yes they are simulators. They simulate so well they have their own air system for the brakes. If you don't shift properly it will grind, it even has an eaton fuller shift knob on it. Minus the sub par graphics its just like driving a schneider truck. But it can be set up using any number of trucks. You want to drive a 379 with an 18 speed. Not a problem, what size engine, load, axles, everything is customizable. Its a remarkable piece of equipment. 80k each I believe.

I prefer a school seperate from the company you may drive for. Yes, it will cost more(unless you get some form of aid), but it will be better for you if things go sour with that company. I despise the idea of being tied to a company that way.

That said, I have also heard Schneider has the best company provided program. I know a guy who went through it 8-9yrs ago and he was quite happy in the end. Paying for your own schooling can cost over $5,000 + the motel and food.

If you're willing to travel to a school, maybe telling us where you'd like to go can get you more 'direction' for a school. I know of one in FL and I'm sure many others can help with several states.

unfortunitly they don't break out the skid pad that much. it"s more used for drivers working there who have had an accident.

need some more info. like area of country you in and area of country you want to run and time out you are looking for just to start out.

I went to school at MTC in St. Louis. I was to drive for Hogan so they put me trough it. I do not know how the living conditions were since I lived in St. Louis at the time, but the school was very good. I only had to go for Two weeks, but when they were done, I passed my CDL exam fiorst time around.

Also Hogan was a great company to work for. I never had a problem with them. They paid well for a beginner trucker, and I got good miles. When I started to have problem with my family, they were able to get me to drive on a local account for Proctor and Gamble, as well as being a yard dog for them. Lots of hours, put great pay
