Conn. trucking co. owner gets 6 years in prison
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut recycling company owner accused of rigging a truck with bad brakes and then trying to reinstate insurance coverage after a deadly crash has been sentenced to six years in prison.
The fiery wreck in Avon killed four people and injured 11 others in 2005.
Hartford Superior Court Judge David Gold gave 73-year-old David Wilcox a 10-year sentence, suspended after six years in prison for insurance fraud, manslaughter and assault.
Wilcox's attorney read a statement apologizing to the victims' families after Wilcox said he was too distraught to read it.
Authorities say the poorly maintained dump truck caused the crash when the driver lost control going down Avon Mountain. The truck plowed into 19 vehicles stopped at the bottom of the hill, killing the truck's driver and three commuters.

Sorry SOB
OMGosh, that's just sick...
How many more of these OWNERS are out there doing the same thing?
That sentence was way too lenient.
Ever notice it's only owners of small companies that get criminal charges against them for equipment violations and log book falsifications ? The Crete driver that killed 7 kids had documentation of dispatch pushing him to violate HOS but no charges were filed against dispatch or management there . An audit resulted in over $50,000 in fines but over $30,000 of that was for not meeting random drug test requirements.
Owners of small companies have faced felony charges for allowing log book falsification . An audit at U.S. Xpress in 12/06 had them cited for document falsification . No criminal charges . Just a $7,500 fine which is nothing to a company with billion dollar a year revenue .
How many felony charges against megacarrier dispatchers would it take to eliminate driver abuse ?
Hmmmm........ good point.
