Some drivers were born to be a PITA...
Today I was Southbound on I-85 just getting wound up after crossing the Tar Heel scales in Hillsborough. I hit my stride about a half mile past the Petro and I came upon a string of trucks pokin' along in the 2nd lane. I'm thinking how screwed I am, and, that's it's gonna' be a long ride to Greensboro.
I took a peek to the right
(against the law to go left of the 2nd lane) and what do I see? Nothing but wide open real estate. There's not another vehicle for at least a mile. Here I go.
I passed the first two slow pokes real quick and was closing on the third one in line. I was 15' from right rear corner running at least 10mph faster than he was. Swoosh! He just whipped into the right lane like there was a fire in the lane he had been using.
There was no emergency, he wasn't overtaking the truck he was following, and he gained nothing by the maneuver. I can only conclude it was nothing but a block intending to force me to run at his governed speed.
What an asshat. Since he had slowed me down I ran with him for a while, on his left, holding him in the right lane until merging traffic in Burlington forced him to brake check in a big way. I flashed him a thank you blink of the marker lights as I left him working the gear-box.
I'm going to pick on Celadon trucks for the rest of the week. Jerks...
