Day 6th and Day 7th

Not much to report about day 6 except that we spent most of the day working on our Air Brake Test and Walk around inspection. For me the Brake test was a brazer as soon as I figured out what each test was for and what caused what. Were short handed instructors this day as well but we were kinda on our own with it. However the walk around inspection of the vehicle is something else for me. As I'm no gear head and seeing the engine, brakes, suspension, tires, hoses bla bla bla on down the line and being expected to name them all plus what your suppose to check for was really tough. I'm used to letting my mechanic handle that sort of vocabulary. So spent most of our Sunday off going over that with some of the other students.
Test for the Air brakes and inspection were being done on Monday (day 7) but they didn't get to me and the rest of us spent the day doing some different skill driving with the trucks. Backing into a alley, parallel park the trailer and doing a 100 FT forward and back control stop. All where a challenge for me as this was pretty much the 1st day I really was able to go forth and drive the truck around a bit, do some backing and pulling in and stuff. Lets just say that I never thought I had a problem with backing up straight ever. But now, I can't back up this trailer straight to save my life.
All and all a good day, got some driving in today and tomorrow I'll be tested for air brakes and the walk around inspection.. which I'm totally going to ACE!!

Looks like things are going well. Probably won't be long until they get you out on the road in the truck

Keep up the blog please. I am considering a career switch and I am wondering about some things. I am not very tough physically. Do you find that you are getting "beaten up" with the physical stuff? I mean, from things such as coupling or anything else?

ya know, not so much. The coupling is pretty much cranking a handle til it either meets the ground and raise the trailer a bit or the opposite. And the lines from the truck are just big plugs. My company doesn't require us to unload the cargo just deliver the load. besides a hook to pull to unhook the trailer from the truck, ya don't get banged up very much. Putting chains on might be a different story though.

Thanks for the response. I'll keep looking into trucking and reading your blog. The best to you.
